Certain types of 'gifts in kind' are welcomed
by mission organizations, including IN TOUCH MISSION INTERNATIONAL (ITMI).
To avoid misunderstanding it would be helpful to check with the Mission
beforehand to see if they accept or can use or have room to store the
item(s) you plan to donate.
If the item(s) are pharmaceutical or medically
related they must be in date. Third world countries no longer
allow importation of out-dated medicines.
ITMI is registered as a non-profit Mission with
a 501(c)(3) tax exempt status. If requested, ITMI will provide
written acknowledgement of receipts of the item(s). The letter of receipt
should be included with your income tax return and will serve as confirmation
of your gift.
ITMI has no way of estimating, evaluating or verifying
the value of gifts in kind, and is not allowed by law to do so.
You will need to estimate the value of your gift and include that with
your tax return. It is for the IRS to determine the fairness and accuracy
of your estimate.
We appreciate your thoughtfulness and generosity. We know, also, that
you will appreciate that once a gift in kind has been made to ITMI, the
mission has the obligation to transport it to the field. This is often
very time-consuming for our staff and always involves added expenses,
for packaging and transportation, not anticipated in our annual budget.
Your help in funding shipment and delivery to the field will be greatly
appreciated.
