Child Evangelism Fellowship Camp - Update October 2010

Lesson in the HallwayDuring the first two weeks of August I participated in a kids camp sponsored by Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) Poland. My main role was to run the English language program for the 7-9 and 10-11 year old groups. This was done with the help of an on-site translator (the same person who helps me with my Sunday school class.) Altogether we provided English lessons and activities for 109 kids.

In an effort to funnel more financial resources into camp scholarships and staff support, the leadership team selected a camp site that actually wasn’t very suited for this many kids or the needs of the overall program.

For me, personally, this resulted in the need to teach the younger kids’ lessons in the hallway of one of the dormitories.

We were able hold the 10-11 year old lessons in a small rec room. This room had three small tables for us to use……

Ping Pong Table Lessons

……. but we had to use the ping-pong table for almost half the class, as well.

Lessons and Worship

If you look carefully at the last two pictures, you will probably notice that the whole class consists only of boys. The leader of the 10-11 year olds decided to split his group into two classes: one consisting of 24 girls, and the other made up of 29 boys. This created quite “interesting” class dynamics……

The camp provided admirably strong Bible lessons, and the kids eagerly participated in the Scripture-related songs.

Most of the kids at this camp were already Christians. A few kids made first time decisions for the Lord, but the bigger impact was the strengthening of already existing relationships with the Lord. One 8 year old boy reported that it was “his best camp ever.”
