Reaching Out to Women and Children - August 2011 Update

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 19:14

Great Commission Course

Last month was filled with interesting outreaches, which included organizing preaching engagements for the attendees of the Frontline Fellowship Great Commission Course. Christians come from around the world to participate in this excellent training, developed by Dr. Peter Hammond. Those who desire to be more innovative and effective in cross cultural evangelism and discipleship, join seasoned missionaries in the classroom and field.

The Great Commission Course involves physical, spiritual and theological discipline and training. Daily outreaches, and life changing presentations and practicals, form part of the activities. I joined the group at the shooting range and on a late night hike up a mountain river, which included crawling through a water pipe (in winter).

Reaching out to women and children

Tough Guys Sit Still for Gospel ConversationChildren’s ministry in a local, partially informal township, with my whole family, made for a wonderful time – I got to share Jesus Christ with many young ‘tough guys’. One local ministry leader said that he could not believe the young men were sitting so still and quietly listening to a Gospel conversation. Please pray that the seed planted may grow.

Our church community group added a room onto a home (tin shack of 100 square feet) of a couple, in an informal settlement, who have tuberculosis and are too weak to tackle a building project. A separate room for their children—who do not suffer from TB at this point—was needed to prevent them from contracting the disease.

Adding a room

Sonja, Roberta (14) and I are running a ministry for young children for our local congregation. We started the ministry with a history lesson on the French Huguenots that, surprisingly enough, intrigued their young minds. Learning the Ten Commandments is also a priority from the beginning as is the Gospel, which does not make much sense if we don’t understand God’s Law.

83% of all Christians claim to have turned in repentance and faith to Christ between the ages of 4 and 14 – a crucial age for us to make a difference in the lives of our youth.

National Women’s Day outreaches in shopping centers, where we distributed magazines, tracts, bumper stickers and balloons, was a huge success.

Children were delighted to be handed colorful balloons and many people were very grateful for the Gospel literature. Shoppers took part in our Spiritual Well-Being Survey, which took them through The Way of the Master and Evangelism Explosion questions, to confront them with the Law of God and the reality of Eternity.

Discipleship training at a church, preparing the members for their mission’s month during which they will do door-to-door, hospital and prison outreaches, is also going well.

An e-interview with a reporter of a parenting magazine

After giving Christian input to a secular magazine I thought I’d never hear from them again. I was surprised when the reporter emailed me back with: “Thank you so much - this is really terrific.”

I have not published the interview until now - read it on my blog at: www.missionliberty.com

Thanks to our loyal prayer and financial supporters we are able to carry on discipling the nations. Thank you for being part of our team.
