Moving Forward in Poland

In addition to their many other responsibilities ITMI’s Richard and Brooke Nungesser lead the Bread of Life ministry, a vital process of transforming homeless people into productive Polish citizens. Their no nonsense approach incorporates a skillful blend of tenderness and tough-love. The work of BoL has grown both successfully and remarkably in the last two years. Funds have been raised to purchase property for a New Life Center (NLC) that will serve as an evangelistic venue and transition home. But it is more work than they can handle. They need help. Not surprisingly God has come to the rescue!

Richard writes with great enthusiasm about their new co-worker, Dawid Karel. Dawid [“w” in Poland is pronounced like our “v”] comes from a family of believers. His father and cousin are currently pastors. Both of his grandfathers were pastors. This is exceptional in a country where less than 1% of the population are born-again Christians.

While studying abroad at a Bible college in Tennessee, Dawid met his lovely wife, Aura, a lawyer from Venezuela. Together they are passionate about sharing the Good News of Christ in Poland.

Dawid’s role with Bread of Life is 3-fold; he directs the NLC and the ministry in both Poznan and Kalisz (a 21/2-hour drive). Office space and consultation rooms have been provided in both cities. He has helped BoL acquire approximately $13,000 worth of computer equipment for the centers for less than two grand. Plus BoL received nearly $5,000 of office furniture for free! Richard says, “We NEED him. You’ll love him! He’s a bulldozer!”

Aura had been involved in BoL for the past year and a half as a volunteer in the breakfast program “Holy Start” when Richard first approached Dawid with the invitation to join the ministry team fulltime. He held a secure and well-paid job in Poznan. “He diligently sought the Lord about it,” Richard remembers.

With unemployment at nearly 20% in Poland, it was a big step of faith for Dawid to leave his comfortable position. Years ago he trusted Christ for salvation, now he could trust Him for sustenance. He’s glad he did. The Lord has given him joy unspeakable in serving Him.

“Dawid’s skills, passion and heart for God are already helping Bread of Life make ‘Productive Polish Citizens’” Richard says. “Now you can have a part. Dawid and Aura need a minimum of $1,200 in monthly support.”

In keeping with our policy of supporting nationals, ITMI has endorsed the Karel’s ministry with BoL under the supervision of Richard Nungesser and Piotr Zaremba.
